GeoCORE is a geospatial computing and data development facility located in the Trani Life Sciences Building at Virginia Commonwealth University. We provide VCU faculty and students with access to centralized geospatial databases, computing infrastructure, consultation, application development, and training in support of geospatial data development, analysis, interpretation, and product development.
GeoCORE integrates state-of-the-art geospatial and remote sensing technologies, specialized software, and application development to advance VCU’s instructional and research missions. Effective partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and the private sector expand the scope of activities that GeoCORE can support.
GeoCORE maintains 33 high-end workstations in two adjacent teaching labs, video conferencing and distance learning capabilities, offices, and a dedicated server room with independent cooling and power. GeoCore faculty and staff support an extensive array of field instruments and data development platforms at the VCU Rice Rivers Center, including fixed-wing and rotary UAVs, networked sensor arrays, LIDAR, and wireless infrastructure to capture real-time environmental data.
